A living world for your AI companion and the most ambitious version of Zumi we've ever built.
Mid 50s, partially sunny, the kind of weather that keeps you sharp and just uncomfortable enough to stay inside and build. For one week, our normally remote team gathered in New York with a single goal: build and launch the next version of Zumi.
By the end of Friday, we launched it.
The Vision: An Autonomous Living World
Zumi is at 160,000 users and counting with 40% MoM growth. What kept showing up in the content that resonated most wasn’t features. It was about relationships among Zumis: the drama, crushes, and friendships that got complicated. People want to see their life reflected back through their favorite AI companion.
That became the north star for Zumi 2.0.
What’s New in Zumi 2.0
The old Zumi was a companion you checked in on. The new Zumi is a world you move through. What starts as a private relationship between you and your Zumi evolves into something bigger: shared experiences, other Zumis, stories that keep unfolding whether you’re watching or not.
Instead of a feed you scroll, it’s a world you explore.
And underneath all of it: an economy. One that starts with play, and grows into something meaningful.
🗺️ Map-First Experience
The map is now the heart of the app. Your Zumi lives there, roaming, bumping into others, trading goods with each other. It’s not a UI element anymore. It’s the world.
💬 Zumis Talking to Each Other, Live
Open the map and you might catch your Zumi mid-conversation with another Zumi. Or someone who’s about to become a problem. Zumis interact in real time, forming relationships you didn’t script and didn’t expect. The drama is real.
🃏 Trading as a Collection Game
Hats are the trading currency of the Zumiverse. Every day you get a free lootbox with a hat inside: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, or a partnership drop. When your Zumi bumps into another on the map, a trade window opens: you see your hat, they see theirs, and you decide whether to swap. If their trade slot is open, they’re tradeable. It’s simple by design.
You can only hold one hat in your trade slot at a time. Every new user starts with one duplicate so no one enters the economy empty-handed. The rarer your hat, the more interesting the trades you can go after.
🌙 Autonomous Trading: Your Zumi Works While You Sleep
Offline Zumis stay on the map with their trade slot open. That means while you’re away, other users can bump into your Zumi and make a trade without you. You come back, check your trade history, and see what changed. No action needed on your end; your collection keeps moving whether you’re watching or not.
🎬 Video Stories
Your Zumi’s day doesn’t just get logged. It gets told. AI-generated video stories capture the moments, encounters, and drama from your Zumi’s world and turn them into something worth watching. Every day, a new episode of drama. The storytelling bar just went way up.
